• Name & Scope: The project is officially termed the Coastal National Highway or the Vizag-Bhogapuram Beach Corridor. It is a major infrastructure initiative by the Central and State Governments (NHAI/MoRTH and Government of Andhra Pradesh).

• Alignment: The highway is planned as a six-lane access-controlled greenfield corridor. The primary section is approximately 200 kilometers (or smaller segments like the 20-kilometer Bheemili-Bhogapuram stretch) connecting:

  • Mulapeta Port (in Srikakulam district, to the north).

  • Bhogapuram International Airport (under construction in Vizianagaram district).

  • Bheemili and Visakhapatnam Port Container Terminal (in Visakhapatnam district, to the south).

• Key Objectives:

  • Logistics & Connectivity: To provide a high-speed, seamless logistics corridor for freight movement between the existing Vizag Port and the new Bhogapuram Airport and Mulapeta Port, significantly enhancing regional trade and exports.

  • Tourism: To unlock the tourism potential of the pristine coastline by creating a scenic, high-quality drive, linking beach resorts, historical sites, and recreational areas.

  • Reduced Travel Time: To drastically cut the travel time between Visakhapatnam city and the new Bhogapuram Airport, which is crucial for the airport's success.

• Features: The modern highway will include smart road features like bicycle tracks, pedestrian walkways, LED streetlights, CCTV monitoring, and public Wi-Fi in certain sections, integrating infrastructure with tourism and urban development goals.

• Utility Relocation & Corridor Development:
  Coordination and execution of utility shifting works including water pipelines, electrical cables, telecom ducts, and service corridors.

• Road Safety & Ancillary Works:
  Installation of crash barriers, parapets, signage, road markings, lighting foundations, and pedestrian safety elements.

• Environmental & Sustainability Measures:
  Implementation of environmental management plans, dust control, waste management, and coastal ecosystem protection in compliance with regulatory approvals.
